Hi.

I'm Sarah, a Seattle- based writer, artist, yogi, dog-lover and outspoken feminist. I like books, wine, and gray days. Hope you'll stay and hang out for a while!

Where do I even begin with my dark and twisty hero? Kate and Ethan are equal characters by page count and in intention, but somehow, Ethan became the heart and soul of this book for me.

I've already been asked a few times if one or several of these characters are based on real people. The answer is, sort of. Yes, Ethan's character stemmed from a very near and dear person in my life, and the Kate/Ethan relationship also has its roots in a real-life relationship of mine. But as I worked on this book over the years, Ethan really evolved away from the real-life person and into his own - which I think is a good thing. At his core, he'll always remind me of a certain someone, but he definitely has legs of his own now.

Ethan is an actor who has written his first play and is determined that Kate will be the star. He is passionate, stubborn, aggressive, emotional and somewhat hard around the edges - all the great qualities you look for in any Scorpio. His tattoos and piercings reveal the former punk rocker and drug addict hidden beneath his cool exterior. He pushes Kate to her limits and helps her find the courage to live her most authentic life. What he doesn't expect is that in doing so, he'll have to ask himself many of the same tough questions and make his own adjustments.

Ethan can be a bit of a tough pill to swallow at first, but I think anyone who's been in a very intense relationship with an extremely passionate human being can find some familiarity in this character, if you just give him a chance.
